Our Story

As a holism-based service, we at Holistic Tree and Forestry offer a well-rounded approach to landscapes and individual plant needs. Holistic, by definition is the consideration of the system as a whole; not just the individual part. Every situation gets individually assessed, no generic management plans forcing a management prescription to fit every situation.

Founded in 2013 as Brown-Green-Blue Solutions, LLC the focus was largely on permaculture design and consultations. Soon we found we have a knack for pruning and removing trees as well. In 2016 a partner was added and the name "Holistic Tree and Forestry" adopted. The name came largely due to people having a very hard time remembering the colors in order, Brown-Green-Blue. Often, there was an orange or purple involved. As you can imagine this made depositing checks difficult.

The new team found a passion in tree and woodland preservation work building on their skills in tree pruning and removal. In 2017 the owners became involved with a research team at the University of Minnesota further honing their tree and woodland preservation skills.

Plans for the future include the development of an Arborist cooperative model which would allow independent practicing Arborists the same or better resources than competing larger companies. What this means to the customer is a skilled, experienced, professional who wants to be there, doing their passion, at every step of the process. For the Arborist it means resilience through things that can close a small business like a labor shortage, equipment breakdown, or extended inclement weather. It gives the small company an opportunity toward group health insurance. It allows the independent Arborist to focus on being a good Arborist and not so much on making money. Over the years we have noticed a lot of good Arborists not able to be good Arborists because of the difficulties in running a small business in this demanding and dangerous field. Regardless of the work we do, the greatest good we can do is foster a future green and lush with healthy trees and happy people caring for them.
